Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a condition that mainly effects the lungs and digestive system. Due to malfunction in the exocrine system (saliva, sweat, tears, mucus) an excess of thick sticky mucus is found in the lungs, airways and digestive system. Causing digestive problems and trapping bacteria in the lungs. The most common cause of death for people with CF is lung failure. There is currently no cure.
Due to the restricted airways, coughing is a common occurrence. The constant coughing causes tightness and discomfort in the thoracic region further restricting breathing. It is the muscles through the neck and chest that tighten up from overuse. Causing discomfort and tightness.
This is where Myotherapy can help a lot. The restriction and discomfort that comes with the constant coughing is a never ending. So regular treatment is often sought after by people with CF. As a Myotherapist that has worked with people with CF, I have seen and been told the benefits of receiving regular treatments. Not just the muscular relief but also the time out to relax and forget about real life for an hour.
